NAIROBI – The Ethiopian authorities say more than 1500 prisoners have been released in the region of Somali in the east of the country. “The released prisoners were suspected of anti-peace activities”, a statement from the regional government on Facebook.
The government has since January, more than 6,000 people released. There were several journalists and opposition leaders. The releases are, according to the prime minister of the country to the rest to return after 2015, large-scale anti-regeringsprotesten outbreaks. During that two-year protests have been hundreds of people killed.
The government proposed Friday the state of emergency for a period of six months.
