Vivianne Miedema and Anouk Dekker are missing from the 23-man selection of the Oranjevrouwen for the Algarve Cup. Both players are injured.
Arsenal attacker Miedema, the number two on the topscorerslijst of all time at the Oranjevrouwen, has too much pain in her shin. Defender Dekker is struggling with a knee injury.
The Oranjevrouwen do for the fifth time participated in the 25th edition of the Algarve Cup, where a total of twelve countries are preparing for the world cup qualifiers in april. The team of coach Sarina Wiegman is classified in group 3 with Denmark, Japan and Iceland.
Denmark was last summer, yet the opponent in the final of the european CHAMPIONSHIP. The Oranjevrouwen won that final battle in Enschede when with 4-2, which makes them feel for the first time in history to be European champion crowned.
In total, there are three groups and the two best group winners play the final. The group champion with the least points playing against the best number two for the third and fourth place.
The netherlands finished last year fifth in the Algarve Cup. Orange plays on 28 February the first team contest, and the final is on 8 march finished.
