A couple of glasses of alcohol per day is no problem. And also a little bit overweight can actually extend your life.
That concludes the American geriatrician and neurologe Claudia Kawas, after a long-term study among the elderly.
She followed 1700 negentigplussers over a period of fifteen years. Most of these very old people have ever smoked or to smoke still. These “survivors” are often also modest drinkers. “I have no explanation for, but I am convinced that modest drinking helps,” she says against English media.
What the researcher further noticed, is that this group of ’superoudjes’ in many cases, longer has worked. And also: that they stand positive in life, more social and more active than others.
But the most startling conclusion is that a little overweight is not an issue. “Young and skinny is fine, but old and too thin for someone above the eighty bad.”
What should we do next for a throw to the ninety plus? At least a quarter of an hour per day of intensive movement, writes The Telegraph.
Kawas stresses that we still have much too little to know why the one really lives longer than the other. ’Good genes probably play a big role.
