He takes the lead of five-fold world champion Sébastien Ogier (Ford Fiesta WRC). The Frenchman was only tenth.
At the start of the final day of the second world cup race of the season counted Neuville 22.7 seconds ahead of Irishman Craig Breen (Citroen C3 WRC), and 32 seconds on his Norwegian team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen. Neuville took Friday morning the leadership of Ott Tänak (Ford Fiesta WRC), and it was not more. Our fellow countryman started Friday as the fifth, a good starting position in comparison with the other favorites. Friday morning won Neuville one klassementsrit. He was clear and was very consistent in his times. Saturday morning he kept his composure after a technical problem in the opening stage and a spin in the next ride will be Saturday afternoon, full to to fall and the gap in greater depth. Sunday morning he went slightly too cautious from start, but Neuville pulled themselves together immediately and made it afterwards.
“Last year we had been able to win, but then didn’t”, said Neuville afterwards. “I am pleased that we this year have been able to finish it. The team has given me excellent help.”
After the French Sébastien Loeb (2004) and Sébastien Ogier (2013, 2015, and 2016) is Neuville just the third driver from outside Scandinavia that manages to be the Rally of Sweden win. Thanks to this victory is Neuville as the new leader in the CHAMPIONSHIP mode. He now has eleven points ahead of Ogier.
