Frenchman Jonathan Hivert (Direct Energy) is the first leader of the French Round of the Haut Var (2.1). After a tricky final, he won the sprint of a thinned peloton.
Neo pro Franklin Six, the nephew of the late Frank Vandenbroucke, was one of the attackers in the openingsetappe of the Tour of the Haut Var. In the hilly finale were all early escapees again overtaken, and the pack really thinned out.
After 169 kilometres was the arrival in Fayence on the top of a slope, and there they made Jonathan Hivert his name as a puncher. The 32-year-old Frenchman of Direct Energy knocked the Italian Nicola Bagioli and the Frenchman Samuel Dumoulin, and is thus the first leader of the race. For Hivert, it is the eleventh victory of his pro career.
Maxime Vantomme was the best Belgian in the openingsetappe on the nineteenth place. The Tour of the Haut-Var ends on Sunday with a trip of 188 miles between Vidauban and Flayosc.
