Elise Mertens and her Dutch doubles partner Demi Schuurs were Thursday off in the eighth finals of the WTA tournament in Doha (hard/3.173.000 dollar). In 1 hour and 31 minutes, they had to 6-1, 4-6 and 15-13 beaten by the Czechs Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.
In the first set were Mertens and Schuurs taken aback by the efficient Czech team. Where Krejcikova and Siniakova, all the breakpoints is able to save (3/3), came for Mertens and Schuurs only once (1/3). In the second set it seemed the Belgian-Dutch team reborn. Mertens and Schuurs walked out to 1-5, but forgot about it, leaving their opponents still to 4-5 of them came back.
Yet knew the duo from the Low Countries, that in that set, three times a breakpunt used in the second set, still winning, and as a supertiebreak in the fire dragging. Therein was hard. Four times got Mertens and Schuurs a wedstrijdpunt, but they knew there is no one to redeem. For Krejcikova and Siniakova was the fourth matchbal the good.
