The Cornbury music festival focuses this year mainly on female artists. So is Alanis Morissette the headliner on Saturday and are also Mavis Staples, Amy Macdonald, Nina Standard, Pixie Lott and PP Arnold on the stage.
The last time, many festivals are criticized because of the predominantly male line-up. Singer Lily Allen has shared recently a poster of the three-day Wireless Festival in London, where all the male artists were ’glossed’. What remained was a poster with three women in the line-up.
“There is no excuse, really, not one, to programming,” says Cornbury organiser Hugh Phillimore told the BBC. “If I have a little bit of my best would do, the whole of the festival are women. It is not so difficult. There are loads of amazing female acts,” said Phillimore.
On 1 march, the line-up of the other two days made known. “Beware – there are even more women”, jokes the organizer. Cornbury Music Festival in the Uk, Great Tew has been in existence since 2004. In 2017 would be the last edition, but the organization came after a lot of protest on this decision back.
