In Temse is on Saturday morning the afscheidsplechtigheid for Esther Verbeeck – better known as ‘Aunt Terry’ – started in the church of Our Lady.
A lot of people for the opportunity to come down to the municipality on the river Scheldt, where they the last two years of her life has spent.
Aunt Terry died last week at age 86, after a long media career. It is a farewell that the family shares with the rest of Flanders and some well-known faces such as Jacky Lafon, and Bart Peeters.
Actor Wim Opbrouck, the service will open with a own interpretation of the song ‘Love of the Common People’ by Paul Young. Also Bart Peeters brings a musical farewell to Esther Verbeeck, in 1945, pioneered at the then-NIR, the precursor of the VRT. As one of the first omroepsters revealed them to ‘Aunt Terry’, a role that is years and years of numerous Flemish tv-kids company has held. Later, she worked for VTM and behind the scenes, she was the manager of singer Silvy Melody.
From a corner of the church of Our Lady in Temse looks Kraakje’, the well-known squirrel-pop, which Terry himself has designed. On each kerkstoel is also a appelblauwturquoise-coloured scarf, the favourite colour of Esther Verbeeck. The service will be led by a female gebedsleidster, Hilde Van Bladel.
