Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Eden Hazard (Chelsea) and Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham) are Wednesday nominated for the title of Premier League player of the month for January. Three of the Red Devils have the record against the Argentinian Sergio Agüero (Manchester City), the Dane Christian Eriksen (Tottenham) and the Englishman Callum Wilson (Bournemouth).
De Bruyne was also in the first month of 2018 the driving force in the City, and excelled at authoritarian leader with a goal and an assist in the 3-0 victory against West Brom. Also Hazard was, with one hit in the top match against Arsenal and two goals against Brighton (0-4), a bright spot in a month where Chelsea especially with points spilled. Vertonghen is finally also without his injured buddy Toby Alderweireld a vital pawn in the Tottenham defence.
Hazard won the prize in October 2016, Vertonghen in march 2013. De Bruyne won the trophy never. Marouane Fellaini (then Everton) was in november 2012, the first compatriot that the honour, after which Christian Benteke (when Aston Villa) in april 2015 followed. In march 2017 the new Romelu Lukaku (then Everton) as the last belgian winner.
