The traditional lunch prior to the presentation of the Oscars has again taken place. However, traditionally, all of the nominees with each other on the photo and this time it fell one thing. Director Agnès Varda sent her cardboard likeness.

The French Varda, born in Brussels, is with its 89 years, the oldest nominee and could not attend the lunch. Her co-director JR had, therefore, a cardboard version of her, so they are still on the picture. The joke going ever since then throughout the world.

Varda, nominated in the category best documentary, incidentally, was not the only one who had to cancel. Daniel Day-Lewis, Lesley Manville, Christopher Plummer, Denzel Washington, Woody Harrelson and Frances McDormand were all not present.

The awards ceremony of The Academy Awards will take place on 3 march. This year there are two Dutch contenders: Hoyte van Hoytema was nominated for his camerawork in Dunkirk and make-upartist Arjen Spouts can be awarded for his work on the drama Miracle.
