BUENOS AIRES – The US is threatening with sanctions against the petroleum industry of Venezuela. The American minister of Foreign Affairs Rex Tillerson stated that such measures are being considered because the country sinks ever further into a dictatorship.
The minister made the statements in Argentina where he is visiting. “We can be the downfall of the Venezuelan democracy is no longer a passive monitor,” he said. Until now, the U.S. alone has imposed sanctions against persons was issued. America is by far the biggest buyer of oil from Venezuela.
That country is in a political and economic crisis with soaring inflation and lack of foreign currency. Venezuela can hardly even food and medicine in the overseas buy.
