Sean De Bie makes for Belgian triumph in etoile de Bessèges and first victory of Veranda’s Willems-Crelan

Sean De Bie has Veranda’s Willems-Crelan Saturday, the first victory on the road this year delivered. The rider sprinted after 153 km from Chusclan to Laudun-l’ardoise in the fourth stage of the etoile de Bessèges (Fra/2.1) to victory, for our compatriot Timothy Dupont (Wanty-Groupe Gobert). The Frenchman Rudy Barbier (AG2R) was third.

After numerous skirmishes, a early flight and after about 27 km, Rémy Di Grégorio (Delko Marseille Provence-KTM), Julien Antomarchi (Roubaix-Lille Métropole) and our compatriots Brecht Ruyters (Cibel-Cebon) and Tom Devriendt (Wanty-Groupe Gobert). Up they rode 3:30 bonus at each other and then under the impulse of AG2R and Cofidis the gap smaller.

On the local circuit approached the pack quickly, but it broke by the wind, in pieces, leader Marc Sarreau ended up in difficulties, but still would be at the front return. It was not more silent and that was the kiss of death for the last early vluchter: Devriendt was ten kilometers from the finish picked up. With the finish on the Mur de Laudun, we got an exciting slot and some thirty riders battled for the victory. The sprinters were somewhat surprised, it was The Bie, which it did, just for Dupont.

The victory is a boost for the team after Zico Waeytens earlier in this race fell and his wrist broke.
