Actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has Thursday on Instagram an emotional story about the suicide of his brother and the attempted suicide of his mother.
On a photo from the set of his new film Ballers is Johnson drinking a beer at a grave. “Not a typical scene for a comedy, but I toastte on my brother William who committed suicide”, as he writes in the photo.
“It made me think of how many of us are affected by suicide of our friends and family. Struggle and pain is real. We have all been on one or another level.”
He also writes about the suicide attempt of his mother, Ata Johnson, thirty years ago. “My mother tried out to squeeze when I was fifteen. She stepped out of the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and ran to the oncoming traffic ahead of it.”
Johnson grabbed her and pulled her back on the hard shoulder. “What is crazy is that attempted suicide, is that they are there until the day of today not a few remember. Maybe that’s better so.”
The actor noted that he didn’t like the scene at the tomb, to filming, but added that it was his duty was to shed light on suicide and the pain it brought with it. “We were lucky that day, when I was fifteen and that is not always the case.”
