The Ethiopians, Mosinet Geremew and Roza Dereje have Friday the marathon of Dubai with their name written on it. It gave them both a cheque of 200,000 dollars, about 160.000 euro, the highest premium ever in a stadsmarathon.
The 27-year-old Geremew took the after a thrilling sprint with five in 2u04:00, a course record and just 1:03 above the world record. Debutant Leul Gebresilase finished in less than two seconds on the closest place of honour. Third was defending champion Tamirat Tola in 2u04:06.
Roza Dereje triumphed at the women in 2u19:17, also a course record. They won for landgenotes Feyse Tadese (2u19:30), Yebrgual Melese (2u19:36) and titelverdedigster Worknesh Degefa (2u19:53).
In the marathon of Dubai, died Friday of multiple records. As runner-up for the first time, seven men under 2u05 and four women under 2h20.
