Jose Mourinho has his contract extended by Manchester United: “the Special One” signed a contract until 2020 at Old Trafford, with an option for an additional year. The previous commitment of the 54-year-old coach walked off in 2019. Mourinho responded “delighted”.
“United believe that I am the right coach for this great club in the near future,” said the Portuguese. “I want the owners also like to thank.”
Mourinho followed Louis van Gaal in may 2016, and won with Manchester United in the League Cup and the Europa League in his first season. This season, United are second in the Premier League, behind the unassailable Manchester City, but still does it in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
“Three trophies won in one season”
“We have very high requirements – three trophies won in one season – but that is the standard that I have from my teams expected”, it sounds still as ambitious with Mourinho. “We are working on a brilliant and successful future for Manchester United. I love my players and it is a pleasure to know that we the next three years will be together.”
CEO Ed Woodward praised Mourinho for his “exceptional work and professionalism”: “He knows what he is doing and I’m sure results will continue to lead.”
