One hundred years after his removal as an olympic sport would be cross country running its comeback to the Olympic Games in 2024 in Paris. At least, not if the IAAF boss Sebastian Coe depends.
According to Coe need the sport first “more extreme and sharper” to a new audience. Also, a new generation of veldlopers be attracted. An international veldloopcompetitie startup should help to make the sport the necessary wind in the sails.
“The Games in 2024 in Paris would be the suitable point to cross-country reintegrated into the Olympic program,” said Coe. The sport will get a “olympic debut” in the form of a discipline at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in 2018.
