Zouhaier Chihaoui, the Belgian lawyer of the VUB-guest lecturer Ahmadreza Djalali, confirms to Belga that there is a review of the death penalty, which the VUB-guest lecturer was imposed.
Djalali was sentenced for espionage and his involvement in the deaths of two nuclear scientists, after his confessions, gathering as a result of psychological and physical torture (see video below).
Since the death of Ahmadreza Djalali at the end of december was the international pressure, also from Belgium, performed. That seems to still effect, for the case of Djalali will be reviewed. A supreme court will next month give an opinion on the matter.
Fellow and UZ-doctor Gerlant Van Berlaer, who had contact with Djalali’s wife Vida Meh and Italian colleagues, will not yet speak of a suspension of the case. “That’s too bold’, says Van Berlaer. “The message is for us that there is something moving and that if this is true, there is room for our politicians to continue to put pressure. Then there is more than just grace questions”.
