He remains a phenomenon, Peter Sagan. Barely three days after the end of the Tour Down Under and plunged the world champion in Vatican city for an audience with Pope Francis.

Neatly in a suit and with the looks of a movie star: wife Katarina had her Peter perfectly decked out for a visit to the Vatican city. It was not just a visit. The world champion was allowed an audience with Pope Francis and had actually a gift brought for the Holy Father: a personalized bicycle in white and yellow, the colors of the Holy Office.

Sagan, in the company of his mother and wife, was present at the daily audience in St. peter’s square and shook the hand of the pope. Sagan had besides the bike also a wielertruitje brought. “Especially for you bought, and signed,” said Sagan. “And the bike carries your own name: Francesco.”

Or the 81-year-old Argentinian pope, a cyclist, is not known.
