Besides Elise Mertens was there Tuesday, of course, at the Australian Open. The Brit Kyle Edmund has joined the men surprisingly qualified for the semi-finals at the expense of Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, this autumn, another winner of the Masters.

The Brit Kyle Edmund (ATP 49) defeated surprisingly, the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 3), this autumn is still the winner of the Masters, in four sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4). For the 23-year-old Edmund it is his first semifinal at a grand slam tournament. Therein takes the Brit against the winner of the duel between the Spanish number one in the world, Rafael Nadal, and the Croat Marin Cilic (ATP 6).

Edmund was the only Brit this year to the main table of the Australian Open. His fellow countryman, Andy Murray, triple grandslamwinnaar, recently underwent hip surgery and is not yet on the rotation.

In the other quarter-finals, the Swiss Roger Federer (ATP 2) against the Czech Tomas Berdych (ATP 20) and the American Tennys Sandgren (ATP 97) compared to the South Korean Hyeon Chung (ATP 58). Those last two players stuntten in their eighth-finals, by, respectively, the Austrian Dominic Thiem (ATP 5) and the Serb Novak Djokovic (ATP 14) home send.
