The Norwegian pop singer Sigrid has the grand prize poached in the influential muziekpoll ‘BBC sound of 2018’. Therein tips the British public broadcaster, the musical hypes of the coming year.
The 21-year-old Sigrid is one of the youngest musicians who win the prize. Only the British singer Adele was younger. When they in 2008 had won, she was still just 19 years.
The Norwegian says that she is speechless. “Since I am from a small country, I always thought that my music spread would be difficult. But streaming has a lot of boundaries broken, I think.’
The entire top five in the list are all young musicians. In second place is Rex Orange County, the band of 19-year-old Alex O’connor. Then follow IAMDDB, Khalid and Pale Waves.
The BBC shows since 2003, more than a hundred British experts – journalists, festivalprogrammatoren, curators of streaming services and this year for the first time, a former nominees – the hype of the upcoming muziekjaar predict. Sometimes that is a shot in the rose, with such names as Adele (2008), Ellie Goulding (2010) and Years & Years (2015).
Last year won soul singer Ray BLK.
