Real Estate – S/T 7″ (Track by Track Review)

The buzz has reached deafining levels surroundng Real Estate, does this “7 provide more fuel for the hype fire?

  1. Suburban Beverage – 6.5/10 (Sounding a little like a 4 track hazy practice tape that you would find in the basement of a former member of  Christie Front Drive, this song wanders on the edge of lo-fi.  Not really a stand out track but and it does not really get interesting till almost the 4 min mark, but none the less it is an ok track.  Lazy pop would be the best way to describe it.)
  2. Black Lake – 8.0/10 (Don’t let the first minute of the song deceive you, it actually turns out to be a pretty good tune.  Reminds me a bit of the classic tune “Sleepwalking” with it’s whiny slide guitar riff, the melody of the song does not exactly jump out at you but it turns itself around into a pretty good  lo-fi pop track.)
  3. Old Folks – 8.5/10 (Easily the best track on this “7 I am reminded of classic 60’s pop the way the Shins play it.  Pretty pop standard bass and drums but the hook is a great one and is a sign of great things to come with this band.  This song is worth the purchase alone.)

Bottom Line – 7.7/10 The hype surrounding this band is justified thus far and I am really looking forward to their first full lenth.  Recommended if you like the Shins and good old fashioned pop.
