Ever since Geoff Farina had to disband one of my favorite bands “Karate” because of medical complications, we have been fighting. How could they break up in the midst of making some of their best material? But it looks like we are on the verge of making up, with the annoucement of his first album under his new moniker Glorytellers.
From their myspace entry: “The creative force behind Glorytellers is guitarist/singer/songwriter Geoff Farina, who spent the better part of 14 years fronting Boston’s genre-bending Karate, and as one-half of the formative lo-fi duo Secret Stars. Gavin McCarthy (Karate, Cul de Sac), Joshua Larue (Him/Mice Parade), Luther Gray III (Ida, Joe Morris Trio), Ty Citerman (Gutbucket), and engineer Andy Hong are also part of Glorytellers”
From the 3 songs posted on their myspace page, it sounds like this band will fit nicely into the void left by the demise of Karate. Somewhere in the center of all of his past and current projects (Karate, his solo career, Ardecore , The Secret Stars) is where I would peg the sound, and that is fine with me.
